Everything You Need to Know to Find the Perfect RV
Even though the weather won’t be getting that cold, camping season is still coming to a close and many of our northern neighbors will start to see chillier temperatures, limiting the places you could visit in the first place. Your Camping Style
There are a lot of ways you can narrow down your options, but they all essentially boil down to what will work with your camping style. Everyone is looking for a different experience in their RV and the key is to find the model that meets as many of your needs as possible. Some priorities to consider can include:
- How big do you want the RV to be?
- How many beds do you need?
- Where will you go and will it restrict the kind of RV you can use?
- What kinds of features and amenities do you want?
- What is your primary driver comfortable with towing or driving?
Along with anything else that’s important to you.
Budgeting
As fun as it is to daydream and think about buying whatever RV you want, we understand that money can play a pretty big factor for many of our customers. We want you to find a camper that will give you a great traveling experience without putting too much strain on your wallet.
Take some time to figure out what your budget is by deciding what you can afford and comparing that with what’s realistic for the market. Don’t forget you have many financing options available to you and you can ask us about special deals to help you save. You’ll also need to remember to factor in other costs outside of the sticker price, including warranty prices, registration, fuel, maintenance, and so on.
Your RV Options
And now to the exciting part: it’s time to start looking at models! The RVs you’ll be looking at are broken down into categories and we’ve provided a quick guide to what each type of RV looks like and how they might be perfect for you.
Travel Trailers
Travel trailers are a type of towable RV, which means you’ll need another primary vehicle to get them from one place to the next, often a pickup.
These models offer the widest range of options, with varied sizes, shapes, and levels of luxury. They’re also often more affordable than some of their counterparts and are perfect for families. There’s a pretty good chance that whatever you need can be found in a travel trailer.
Fifth Wheels
Fifth wheels are another type of towable vehicle, but are more recognizable by the overhanging section that sticks out in front of the RV, right where the hitch is. When a fifth wheel is hitched up to the tow vehicle (something with an open bed, like a pickup), there is an overlapping section between the two parts of the towing unit.
Outside of the technical identifiers, there are a few commonalities among these models as well, particularly when it comes to size. Fifth wheels are often the largest towable RVs on the market, as well as the most luxurious. They’re an excellent choice for larger groups or those who spend a great deal of time on the road.
Toy Haulers
Toy haulers are a particular type of trailer that offers unique features (while they’re usually towable, there are limited options that come with their own drivetrain). They come with a large empty space in the back, or sometimes the living area can be converted into an empty space, called a garage or bay that’s usually used to transport powersports vehicles.
This is often a particular favorite for a select group of travelers, but if you enjoy off-roading, then you might be interested in some of the toy hauler options available to you.
Motorhomes
Motorhomes are the only RVs that come with their own drivetrain, so you don’t need that tow vehicle to move it around. This particular group is also broken down into subcategories known as Classes.
Class A Motorhomes
Class A motorhomes are often the largest, built using a bus-style chassis with a flat front and panoramic windows. They can reach over forty feet in length and are perfect for full-time RVers.
Class B Motorhomes
On the opposite end of the spectrum, Class B motorhomes are often the smallest of the group, using a van-style chassis. They can be ideal for one or two travelers who want something easy to drive with just the most basic amenities.
Class C Motorhomes
Often thought of as the middle ground, Class C motorhomes are built using a truck chassis. This makes them easy to drive, even for first-time owners, while also offering top features at an affordable price.
